What we do
The Arbiter of Student Issues (ASI) is here to help you understand your rights, explore your options, and work toward a fair resolution. If you’re facing a conflict at VCC —whether it’s a decision, a process, or an interaction — you don’t have to face it alone.
We support both current and prospective students. Whether you’re making a complaint or responding to one, the ASI provides a calm, impartial space to help navigate the next steps.
How we help
The ASI provides:
- Help understanding VCC policies and complaints processes
- Informal and formal dispute resolution options
- Guidance on next steps if you’re stuck or unsure
- Support through meetings, referrals, or facilitated conversations
- A neutral space to explore what a fair outcome might look like
The Arbiter of Student Issues is here to support fair and respectful resolution of student issues. Sides will not be taken; the goal is to create space for open dialogue, help clarify your options, and guide everyone toward a solution that works for all involved.
Your privacy matters
The ASI follows a few guiding principles:
- Neutrality: We don’t represent any one side
- Fairness: We promote fairness in how decisions and processes unfold
- Equity: We look for outcomes that support student well-being and inclusion
- Objectivity: We consider all perspectives before recommending a path forward
Our services are confidential. Information about your case will not be shared unless:
- You give written permission for us to act
- We are required to do so by law
