In this course, students will concentrate on an analysis of English grammar for teaching purposes. Diploma students are also introduced to the theory and best practice methodology as it pertains to the teaching of English grammar to adult learners. In addition, learners are introduced to the teaching skills and techniques for presenting new grammar and organizing subsequent learner practice. Teaching Grammar 1 focuses on Beginner level through Intermediate level grammatical structures.

Prerequisites

TESO 1101 taken prior or concurrently.

  • The application of grammatical knowledge to plan a grammar lesson
  • Analysis of elements and format in the presentation of low-level grammar
  • Basic classroom management techniques
  • Designing lesson plans to present and practise new grammar
  • Teaching the presentation and practice of low-level grammar
  • Correcting student errors in oral practice
  • Critiquing grammar practice activities
