In this course, students will focus on the theory, best practice instructional methodology, and resources used for teaching reading skills to English Language Learners . This course also introduces course participants to a variety of approaches to integrated language teaching, reading assessment, and the potential uses of technology in the ESL/EFL reading classroom.

TESO 1101 taken prior or concurrently.

- Introduction to teaching reading theory and methodology
- Evaluating materials & sample lesson plans
- Assessing the level of reading materials using Canadian Language Benchmarks
- Working with literacy and low-level readers
- Developing appropriate reading activities, exercises and vocabulary questions
- Designing pre and post reading activities
- Teaching and developing vocabulary through reading & lesson planning
- Extensive reading & reading activities and lesson ideas
