This six-hour course consists of two modules: Effective Memo, Email, and Report Writing, and Writing Business Letters. The purpose of the of the course is to introduce participants to standard formats for memos email, and reports, and to review qualities of effective business writing.

What you will learn

  • Module 1: Effective Memo, Email and Report Writing (3 hrs)
    • Proper email style and usage
    • Email formatting
    • Email etiquette
    • Business report functions, categories and format

    Module 2: Writing Business Letters (3 hrs)
    • Give basic guidelines for good business writing by:
    • Using the active voice
    • Promoting a "You" attitude
    • Keeping a positive tone
    • Using transitions
    • Updating to modern language
    • Discussing basic letter formats and letter formulas
    • Practicing writing different types of business letters
    • Recommending further practice with valuable resources
    • Report writing process
