This course introduces students to the hotel/lodging industry by providing a foundational knowledge of how the industry is structured. Students will examine the various types of hotels and how they each are designed to uniquely meet the needs of guests. An in-depth look at how hotels are structured and organized focusing on the rooms division will also be explored. Students will then analyze the guest cycle of how guests move through the hotel and interact with the rooms division including reservations, front office, housekeeping and maintenance. A ‘lab’ component of this course will focus on computer systems directly related to front office and rooms division operation allowing students to learn a real property management system used by global hotel operators.
