This course will enable the learner to build on foundational knowledge and further develop attributes and psychomotor skills required for the provision of preventative, therapeutic, and supportive person-centered dental hygiene care to diverse people across the lifespan. Emphasis will be placed on the integration of an evidence-informed approach to decision making into dental hygiene practice, including the recognition of client values and the influence of the determinants of health on oral and overall health. Learners progress from a novice to a beginner level by the end of the course.

What you will learn
- Management of the clinical practice environment.
- Dental hygiene care planning using the Process of Dental Hygiene Care model (ADPIE) and in compliance with Dental Hygiene Regulation, Code of Ethics, and regulatory practice standards.
- Interceptive, therapeutic, and preventive therapies such as polishing, fluoride, power debridement, local anesthesia, mouth guards, and FMS dental imaging.
- Implement health promotion and educational principles and strategies.
- Provision of dental hygiene services.
- Collaborate as a member of an oral health care team.
- Evaluation of dental hygiene care using practice standards and codes of ethics.
