The Student Records team at VCC can help you get credit for previous learning, work experience, or courses—saving time and cost as you move forward.
Transfer credit
You may qualify for transfer credit if you’ve completed:
- Previous post‑secondary courses
- Advanced Placement (AP) courses
- International Baccalaureate (IB) courses
If you meet equivalency, VCC may accept those courses instead of repeating them.
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)
Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) lets you earn credit for learning gained outside traditional classrooms: work, training, or other experiences
You may submit a portfolio or other evidence of your learning. If approved, PLAR can be applied toward required courses in your program.
How to get started
- Review your program’s curriculum and required courses
- Gather course descriptions, syllabi, transcripts, or evidence of experience
- Request evaluation of transfer credit or PLAR
- Submit your request to Student Records for assessment
- If approved, your credit will be recorded on your transcript and count toward your program
