What we mean by sexual violence and misconduct
Sexual violence includes a range of unwanted behaviours, from harassment and stalking to assault and the sharing of images without consent. It can happen between strangers, acquaintances, or even within relationships.
- Sexual assault
- Sexual exploitation
- Sexual harassment
- Stalking or unwanted following
- Indecent exposure
- Voyeurism
- Coercion or pressure
- Sharing explicit content without consent
- Threats or attempts to commit any of the above
What consent means
Consent is clear, ongoing, and freely given. It must be enthusiastic, informed, and never assumed.
Here’s what you should know:
- Consent can be withdrawn at any time
- It cannot be given when someone is impaired, asleep, or pressured
- Past consent does not equal future consent
- Power dynamics (like authority or trust) can affect consent
If consent isn’t clear and continuous, it isn’t consent. And without consent, it’s sexual violence.
