This course is designed in response to the TRC Calls to Action in Health with an introduction to Indigenous perspectives, knowledge, and practices within the context of health care education. Through online modules, students will explore the historical context and contemporary impact of colonization on Indigenous peoples of Canada, with a focus on the local host nations of Vancouver: xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Students will develop a personal action plan that demonstrates reflection on systemic and personal stereotypes and biases, integration of Cultural Humility and Safety practices, and a commitment to reducing inequities and disparities experienced by Indigenous peoples.
