The program of studies for this course provides a theoretical and practical foundation for teaching the English language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course also focuses on how to teach and incorporate pronunciation and grammar to provide integrated, multi-skilled lessons. Other areas such as language and culture, assessment and classroom management are also addressed. Students have the opportunity to do lesson presentations and micro-teaching sessions. A variety of materials useful at different language levels along with many examples of practical activities and techniques to use in the classroom are included.

What you will learn

  • Week One: 12 different 3-hour seminars: Orientation and Language Learning Experiences; Overview of Teaching ESL/EFL; Listening and Speaking 1; Lesson Planning; Grammar 1; Languages and Culture; Writing 1; Teaching Beginners; Pronunciation 1; Grammar 2; Lesson Presentations; Practicum Orientation and Games.
  • Week Two: 8 different 3-hour seminars and 1 full day of Practicum: Microteaching; Pronunciation 2; Reading 1; Classroom Management; Writing 2; Listening and Speaking 2; Reading 2; Vocabulary.
  • Week Three: 6 different 3-hour seminars and 2 full days of Practicum: Reading 3; Grammar 3; Pronunciation 4; Error Correction; Testing; Practicum Seminar.
  • Week Four: 6 different 3-hour seminars and 2 full days of Practicum: Writing 3; Listening and Speaking 3; Pronunciation 4; TEAP; Young Learners; Music in the ESL/EFL Classroom.
